WHAT

SAHU CREATIVE

In 2021, Orion founded SAHU CREATIVE, an organization providing a platform for unacknowledged artists to express their creativity. SAHU CREATIVE reaches back to the incarcerated to raise awareness about their creations and to market the artwork for sale to the public as a means of supporting incarcerated artists. The vision for this organization began while Orion was in prison. He started collecting art from artists who were hindered from displaying their creations to the public due to the constraints of their circumstances within the prison system. Through the organization he works with aspiring and upcoming artists and writers(many who are formerly incarcerated, system impacted or marginalized) as they are the soul of his organization, and his mission is in showcasing as many artists as he can.

Through SAHU CREATIVE LLC, Orion also enhances small projects and organizations by:

  • Crafting and implementing social media strategies for authentic and engaging content.

  • Promoting and managing social media for events, boosting visibilty through personal insights.

Designing social media programs that align with content strategies informed by lived experience.

  • Supporting social media tasks to drive project success and management.

PUBLICATIONS.

Alongside being a live performer, Orion has published 3 different collections of poetry which you can purchase through amazon. Find more information below and ways to purchase.

  • The Rose That Grew Through the Barbwire

The Rose That Grew Through The Barbwire is a collection of the Art and Creative Writing by incarcerated artists who invested their time and effort to depict the everyday living experiences and emotions of human beings in bondage within the Department of Corrections. They give the public a view of life on the inside from the perspective of the artist who has the ability to transform the macabre ugly reality of the carceral system to a beautiful expression of vibrant imagery through both colors and words. Orion Meadows gives us the raw passion that could only come from artists who have witnessed and endured the pain and suffering that is issued out by the dismal crypts of the unmerciful Leviathan Beast known as America's prison industrial complex. Their work is an example of beauty flourishing in spite of hardship and adversity encompassing their reality like a rose growing through the austere penitentiary barbwire.

  • Birthmark

Birthmark is a collection of poetry written at the beginning stages of the poet's career in the genre. It is a literary exploration of the young Black experience written at a time when Orion Meadows was discovering himself as a writer and human being in a country that often compels one to contemplate his worth and existence based on his racial heritage and ancestry. It provides the reader to glimpse at his literary birth while looking at his familial roots through his young poetic eyes. Birthmark is an introspective work of art that pays homage to the writer's heritage and ancestry as he labors to find and define himself in these modern times wherein history's indelible imprint on the nation's soul is expressed continuously in the convoluted ambiguity of the Black experience.

  • Inside The Box

Inside The Box is a collection of poems that takes the reader on a journey through the carceral system as it is experienced by an individual who is coming to terms with the consequences he has to face as a result of his poor lifestyle choices during his adolescence. As he is traumatized by the shock of having his liberty taken from him and condemned to an extensive period of confinement, he takes the time to engage into some deep introspection which impels a shift in one's paradigm and acceptance of culpability for transgressions committed against his community- a community decimated by the inundation of drugs and extreme violence inflicted by factions waging war upon one another in the streets - activity he participated in as well. The futility of this lifestyle's realized and the pipeline to the penitentiary from the street corner is elucidated through pensive contemplation upon a culture and conditions that pave the way for inevitable suffering and dehumanization for many others reared under circumstances resembling those he experienced while still in the phases of immaturity and reckless adolescence. This leads to a residency in the Department of Corrections, but the seeds of bondage sprouted forth from the soil of the psyche which had already been in a state of arrested development long before the imprisonment of the body occurred.
